Why We’re Donating 1% Of All Sales To Sustainability Causes

Since 2017 it’s been our mission to enable more businesses and organizations to flourish while reducing their energy and environmental footprint.
Now we’re delighted to go one step further and sign up to 1% for the Planet, a global movement inspiring businesses and individuals to support environmental causes.

1% FOR THE PLANET

1% for the Planet was co-founded by Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, the founder of Blue Ribbon Flies.

Bonding over their shared love for the outdoors, Yvon and Craig agreed to give 1% of their sales back to the environment, whether they were profitable or not.

In that moment, back in 2002, a global movement was born.

“The intent of 1% for the Planet is to help fund these diverse environmental organizations so that collectively they can be a more powerful source in solving the world’s problems,” wrote Yvon Chouinard in his iconic book Let My People Go Surfing.

Since that first day, 1% for the Planet has certified more than $350 million in support to approved environmental partners, bringing dollars and doers together to accelerate smart environmental giving.

Now it’s our turn. As of October 2022, we will give at least 1% of all sales to support environmental causes, and we’ve chosen Cultivating Community as our inaugural charity partner.

CULTIVATING COMMUNITY

Cultivating Community is a Portland, Maine-based nonprofit food justice organization that empowers New Americans by teaching them sustainable farming practices and connecting them to the community.

Cultivating Community empowers New Americans by teaching them sustainable farming practices and connecting them to the community.

They support and manage diverse urban growing spaces, enabling community members to grow their own food within city limits. They increase access to local, healthy foods for low-income consumers, providing affordable produce through CSA shares, farm stands, and mobile markets.

Cultivating Community’s efforts have touched thousands of Mainers, and their New American Sustainable Agriculture Project (NASAP) has established the largest land-based farmer training program in Maine.
