Upgrading to energy-efficient lighting can be a game-changer for cannabis cultivators, but upfront costs often pose a significant challenge. This case study highlights how one Massachusetts grower leveraged incentives to transition from HPS to LED lighting, achieving substantial energy and cost savings. The Challenge A Tier 2 Massachusetts cannabis cultivator was operating five flowering rooms using 1000W HPS indoor horticultural lighting. They were eager to transition to energy-efficient LED lighting but faced significant financial barriers. Without substantial cost reductions, the upgrade was not feasible.
